UNION SCORES ANOTHER VICTORY FOR DELTA EMPLOYEES
RAISES COMING IN JANUARY
2 YEAR UNION CAMPAIGN KEEPS PRESSURE ON
The nice thing about trying to organize a union at Delta Air Lines is that management seems to be much nicer and more generous when we are active and vocal about our pay and benefit shortcomings.
Does anyone really think that it is coincidental that we received nothing but reductions in our pay and benefit packages when the union activity went dark last decade and the enhancements began to percolate again only when the IAM came on property two years ago?
Don’t be fooled by the current wave of generosity. One reason we are receiving a pay adjustment in January is because Northwest’s contract stipulates a partial pay restoration during the same time frame. It is no accident that our new management team desires to keep Delta’s non-contract pay just a bit ahead of Northwest’s union pay during this campaign period.
Mr. Anderson’s fake lamentations about not being able to give Northwest’s union folks the same pay adjustments because of their contracts is nothing more than a feeble attempt to influence the outcome of the upcoming various class and craft union votes.
All of you who are receiving pay restoration or other perks such as food or friendly talk should not misplace your thankfulness in the wrong direction.
The next time you see a hard working union organizer in your city you should stop and thank him or her for their tireless efforts; maybe shake their hands or tell them to keep up the good work. Give them encouragement and a pat on the back; wish them and ourselves continued success. They are unquestionably the only reason we are all receiving modest returns on our forced sacrifices.
Keep the pressure on and help others see the benefit of signing those union cards. There is a friendly wind now blowing in from our new government and the NMB will once again very soon be made up of labor sensitive voices. Hope and hard work is turning into tangible results.
Remember everything given to us now can and probably will disappear overnight without the guarantee of a written contract. Accept the modest gains and know and understand where they really came from.
