Celebrating Independence?
Not so fast!



As this July 4th Holiday season is upon us, we must reflect on its meaning. This Union — the United States of America — didn’t just happen…it was fought for. That, we all celebrate.

People of principle, people of belief, and people of vision saw the value of freedom and self determination. They saw that united and free voices could be better than the dictatorship they were living under. Boy, were they right!

And, look what happened. Everything we have and all that we have become as a nation started with those people and those visions.

Our campaign to become our own Union is not so different. We live and work in a one-sided world. We are dictated to by Delta management on everything from substandard pay to fewer benefits, from zero retirement to less vacation, even when we might eat or take a break. We have no real voice to address our needs and wants.

As Americans, we have the right to associate, the right to form a union. We can use OUR united and free voices to better ourselves. Today, we have the opportunity to make a difference.

It is time we became independent and establish our own freedom. The freedom to demand better pay, better health care, better retirement, better sick pay, and more. It is time we declare our own voice…one that we use for ourselves. It is time we speak up for the dignity and respect we deserve as adult working people.

This 4th of July, let’s declare our own self determination — let’s declare our own independence!
