IN HONOR OF MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

40 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK ON APRIL 4TH, 1968 MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., WAS ASSASSINATED. WE HONOR HIS MEMORY AND SERVICE TO THE COUNTRY AND THE WORLD.

THE REVEREND WAS IN MEMPHIS THAT DAY TRYING TO GIVE DIGNITY AND HELP TO SANITATION WORKERS. SOMEONE ONCE SAID THAT 'EQUALITY AND JUSTICE ARE BEST MEASURED BY THE LEVEL OF RISK ONE IS WILLING TO TAKE IN ORDER TO OBTAIN THEM.'

HIS DREAM AND INDEED THE STRUGGLE FOR CIVIL RIGHTS AND EQUAL JUSTICE TAKES ON MANY FORMS; ONE IS ECONOMIC JUSTICE.

TO LIFT A NATION UP TOWARDS ITS OWN DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS REQUIRES ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY AS WELL AS EQUALITY.

IN THE CITY OF HIS BIRTH LET’S HONOR HIM BY REMEMBERING HIS STRUGGLES, HIS MARCHES, HIS INSPIRED SPEECHES AND HIS ENDLESS AND TIRELESS ADVOCACY FOR ALL AMERICANS WHO HAD BEEN LEFT APART FROM THE DREAM OF EQUALITY AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE.

LET’S RENEW OUR STRUGGLE FOR A LIVING WAGE AND DIGNITY IN THE WORKPLACE. MANY, JUST AS DOCTOR KING, GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR OUR RIGHT TO ORGANIZE AND SEEK JUSTICE IN OUR WORK.

LET’S HONOR THEM BACK BY NOT FORGETTING THEIR SUPREME SACRIFICES. CONTINUING TO SEEK FAIRNESS, EQUALITY AND DECENCY IN OUR WORK ENVIRONMENT IS THE BEST WAY TO HONOR DR. KING'S LEGACY OF SELFLESS SERVICE.
