ANDERSON ACCOMPLISHES PERSONAL GOALS
WHAT NEXT FOR DELTA?
Someone asked us a while back to address the ‘lies’ and half-truths our CEO, Richard Anderson, has told since he arrived at Delta. They were adamant that he had misrepresented himself to us, as Delta employees and the general public, about his intentions.
Many heard that he had stated that he did not come to Delta simply to merge two airlines. We got checking all his public statements and found a very curious consistency to his carefully crafted utterances; makes us think that he is one hell of an attorney. The fact is, he did say in one interview with the AJC Business section on Sept. 2, 2007 where he stated that, “in terms of a specific plan, there is no specific plan. We have to make sure the airline works as a stand-alone business and not get distracted.”
He further stated that, “in this business, there will be consolidation at some point in the future. The important thing for Delta is to be in control. You have to secure your own future.”
It certainly looks like that Mr. Anderson and his cronies have secured their futures, probably many times over; but what about the rest of us? Does any of us feel safe and secure in the middle of a recession where fuel is at an all time high? Do any of you really think that the maneuvers of this management team were about saving two airlines or was it more about securing equity for the already rich?
We who are involved in the union process, have great confidence in the working men and women of these two great airlines; we will ultimately succeed. However, it takes strength of conviction and the drive to excel and organize that will eventually give us victory and strength.
Have Mr. Anderson, Mr. Bastian and the rest of the new management team been feeding at the public trough of insider trading money since they arrived at Delta? What has been your piece of the action? Nothing but promises and commitments far into the future. How long are we going to settle for ‘next decade’ payouts that will probably disappear as fast as the July 1 pay reimbursements? Let’s get busy taking what is ours by organizing and telling the short timers (new management) that we are the real anchor and mast of this new great airline.
They have many fooled already, especially the media but this airline won’t get off the ground without our support or hard work. We all know that. Why not exercise our power and take control of our family’s future and promised good fortune.
As ramp employees, we must accept the responsibility of facing down our opposition and get as many union cards signed as possible. We have to show our Northwest brothers and sisters our spine and determination; ultimately victory will be won by those who show no fear. IAM is ready and willing to help…www.goiamnow.org
