Subj: Organizing Campaign
Dear IAM Supporter:
The Machinists Union launched our organizing campaign for Delta ground workers nineteen months ago. In that time we have seen both successes and set-backs. As we all know, nothing worth fighting for ever comes easy.
The IAM has utilized manpower and resources in an effort to not just garner enough support for an election, but also to guarantee a win when an election occurs. Even with that commitment, our campaign to better the lives of Delta workers cannot succeed without strong leadership from within the Delta workforce.
We are at a critical stage in our campaign. We need leaders like you to step up and direct the campaign as we go forward. No Union campaign can be won from the outside alone. IAM organizers cannot talk to your coworkers in the workplace, but you can. Those who choose to take leadership roles in the campaign are the ones the Delta workers will turn to for leadership when we help you negotiate your first contract.
The Machinists Union will give you the tools, training and support to succeed. We will stand side-by-side with you, but we will need many leaders like yourself to step forward in Delta locations nationwide. We need shift and terminal captains within locations, as well as workers who can assist in developing communications. The inside structure that is set up now for successful organizing mirrors the structure you will develop for a good strong union that works for YOU when Delta employees win IAM representation.
You will be receiving further details and an invitation to attend IAM strategy meetings to develop a plan for this next stage of our campaign. We urge you to attend — and bring your coworkers.
Sincerely,
Robert Roach, Jr.
