A JOB LOST IS A JOB GONE
CROWN ROOM JOBS HAVE MEANING
AIRLINE SHRINKING ALL AROUND US
So many people tell us not to worry about a few jobs going away; they say that they were meant to disappear and the airline will be a better, stronger place because of our ability to function without their costly overhead. What the hell is all that kind of talk about?
A job is a job. We do it or some contract company does it; either way someone has to do it. Why not long serving airline employees who understand the needs of the flying public and care about the company? It makes sense to us. Many of us travel a lot and hear from the public more complaints than we care to divulge. People are not happy. Most of their complaining comes back to poor customer service.
There is no doubt in our minds that the amount of time wasted on the phone by our customers just searching for a competent person to talk to adds up to millions of dollars annually. God give us strength to withstand the stupidity of our own internal decisions.
We know people who have spent hours and hours trying to find someone smart enough to issue an ID90 ticket on another carrier; (Delta Direct: contractual) during their nightmare, others witnessed dozens of full-fare passengers going through the same dismal treatment. At the time we wondered how on earth we ever made money and what our future prospects were for continuing on as a viable enterprise.
Yet, here we go again! Let’s contract out every position we can find so that some investor can tell his wealthy friends that Delta has ‘trimmed’ the fat and is a place to plop down a bundle of cash.
The freight business has almost dried up in many locations because we no longer handle our own business. It’s important that someone’s fish arrives on time. Hell, we all knew that for years and years; now we have contractors who work for a few cents on the dollar less who might know that but don’t really care because they aren’t paid to succeed.
If we lose this up coming union fight we will know how our frustrated customers feel because we will be standing in line with them for service and jobs. It’s not a comfortable place to be and people should not place themselves in a position to find out.
Come with us and make a stand; save a job today by being pro-active. The job you save today might well be your job or your sibling’s job in the future. Think about the ramifications of no action on your part; think about the jobs you have already seen lost during your career. Why not stand tall and say no more! Why not a union now!
