3% ‘SOLUTION’ DESIGNED TO REMOVE UNION ‘STAIN’
JUST ADD EMPTY PROMISES, COMMITMENTS AND STIR

Wow! Is your head spinning as fast as mine is? Just a few weeks ago our CEO had all but given up on ‘scrubbing’ the numbers in order to give us a partial pay reimbursement and now, almost magically, the July 1 pay enhancements materialized.

Guess it pays to stay active in the union organizational efforts! These modest pay benefits don’t happen by accident and we appreciate all and any bump-ups that we receive. However, we are not naïve enough to think that this all happened simply out of the magnanimous gesture of a generous and caring management team.

Pressure and hard work caused the change of heart; (fourth flop this spring!) We congratulate all who have worked so hard to continue the union drives at Delta and thank them for the modest pay adjustments. Keep up the good work and before long other benefits will be modified and hopefully enhanced to the point where we can say to management; we concur, now let’s sit down and put it all in writing in a legally binding contract.

Our goal is to secure our future through a contract. Receiving pay and benefit inducements is not the final victory we need or will be sustained by. Heaven knows about our past ‘victories’ and how quickly they dissipated into thin air once the union drives wound down and the mouth piece became silent. Hollow victories will not be self-sustaining and promises and commitments, however sincere never carry over to the inevitable change in upper management circles.

In reality this 3% pay adjustment doesn’t even cover the cost of living increases that have occurred in the last few months, let alone the years of COLA negligence on the part of Delta. However, we will take what is offered and bargain for the rest.

It’s time we finished this great endeavor. It’s time to sign enough union cards to secure and win an election; A vote that will lead to victory; sustaining pay for our future and life enhancing benefits that protect families through the travails of uncertain calamities.
